An interesting post in my other blog

For those of you who might be interested in historical stories, I don't know of any 'ghosts' related to this chapel, however, there is a mystery behind it. It's worth the read! Please join me for another story at my other blog site:

Freaked me out

Our incidents around this house always seem to happen in small groups of incidents...and then nothing for a few weeks or even a month or so. Last night another incident happened to me that freaked me out, just one night after the other two incidents. But first I need to tell you a short story about a book I am reading. So sit back and get ready for a long one!

To start off with, many times I will go and purchase books at the Goodwill or from one of the used book stores like Bookman's or Changing hands. I recently picked up a book called "Scent of Roses" by Kat Martin and have been reading it the past few days. The book is basically about a working farm that has 4 small houses on the property for the supervisors of the migrant farm workers to live in so that they are close at hand and able to run the farm efficiently.

One of the couples that lives in these houses are Maria and Miguel. Maria, is just 19 and pregnant. She is hearing and seeing things in their house and it is always accompanied by the strong smell of roses. Maria does not tell her husband Miguel because they are not open to such ideas and the others just tell her that she is acting like a child and needs to grow up. But Maria is terrified at what is happening to her. Something keeps telling her to "get out or they will take your baby".

She approaches her friend and psychologist Elizabeth about it. Elizabeth refers her to a doctor who tests her for things like depression and anxiety and what not. But the tests for the most part all come out negative. The doc chalks it up to anxiety about her pregnancy and prescribes her some medicine.

Then one night Elizabeth stays with her while Miguel is gone and is surprised to find that she too hears the noises, feels the cold and sees something in the air. Elizabeth then speaks with one of the owners and then has the house itself tested to make sure that the smells are not something poisoning the air; soil samples, mold samples, things like that. These tests also come out negative.

Elizabeth is determined to help Maria figure out what is in the house and agrees to stay in the house another weekend by herself while Miguel is out of town and Maria is staying with a friend. But the brother of the owner of the farm, Zach, has decided that he likes Elizabeth and insists on staying with her to see if they have the same experiences that Maria is having.

This is where my story begins. So I am reading this book last night and get to the part where they are staying in the house. Zach is sleeping on the couch and Elizabeth in the bedroom. The both awake to hearing the moaning wind and a distant train on the tracks, but the train tracks had been abandoned years before. I read the following -

A faint sound reached her, a voice so soft, the words so faintly spoken, she couldn't be sure she heard them.

"I...want...my...mama. Please...I...want...my...mama."

Her heart clutched, speeded up even more. The chill was pervasive now, filling the room, stretching into every corner. Her gaze went to Zach who perched on the end of the sofa, completely alert, waiting to see what happened next. The atmosphere in the bedroom shifted. The chill remained, but with it came the cloying scent of roses.

The smell was unbearably heavy, dense and putrid, a sickening odor that made the bile rise in her throat.

"Mama...? Mama are you there? Please...I want my mama."

The fear inside her swelled. Her gaze shot to the living room in search of Zach and it must have shown in her eyes. She saw him get to his feet and start to move to the open bedroom door. Then something caught her eye. A faint, translucent light began to appear at the foot of the bed, a wavering, eerie glow barely visible in the room. But Elizabeth was certain it was there and a strangled sound of fear came from her throat.

Zach stood in the doorway, his feet braced apart, and the minute he heard the sound, he started toward her, his strides long and angry.

"That's it! That's enough!" Storming into the bedroom, he came straight to the bed, sat down on the edge and pulled her into his arms.

"Easy baby, it's over. Everything's all right. Your safe now." He glanced around the room, searching every corner. "Whatever it was is gone now."

Right at the moment that I read that last line, Marley scared the hell out of me and starting barking, non stop, forcefully down the hallway. I sat up and looked over at her. Sure enough, she was standing at the end of the couch, barking down a dark hallway. I immediately got up, ripping the booklight off my head and went over to where she was at. I shined the bright booklight down the hallway and waved it back and forth. Nothing.

Right then a 'whoosh' of freezing cold air went through me. So cold that all the hairs on my body stood on end. All I could think of was "What the fuck was that?" I can't explain it and this has never in my life happened to me. I watch that Zach guy on Ghost Adventures go through the cold spells and think it's bullshit most of the time (he is not one of my favorite ghost hunters).

I can't tell you how much this scared me. Nothing has ever scared me in this house up until now. I was so freaked out, I tried reading a few more minutes and just couldn't do it. I put my book away and proceeded to go to sleep.

I woke up this morning thinking about this. Is it just coincidence that the ghost in my book seems to be a child? Was the child that is haunting our house trying to tell me something, reaching out because I was reading a similar such story in my book? Could this child have been part of a family that was working the old Dobson Cattle Ranch way back in the day (since we live just 1/2 mile south of the original ranch border)? Or perhaps even before the time when the Dobson family owned the cattle ranch? Why was Marley so forceful in her barking this time? Usually she does this little "puff, puff" thing deep in her chest, but does not actually let out a full throated barking like something was really, really pissing her off.

This leaves me wondering, how can I found out more about the old Mesa property prior to the 1970's? How can I find out what was here as far back as the 1800's even? If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I need to find out what is going on here if I can.

I am not one who has ever really experienced ghostly apparitions or anything. I love the stories and shows, but never in my life dreamed that I would have such experiences in my own life. I hope that whatever is here does not mind us. I hope that someday, I can confirm that there was indeed such a girl that existed. I hope that I can figure out if she is trying to communicate something that was important to her, to one of our family members. Perhaps she trusts us enough to want to reach out to us, to tell us something we need to know. I hope that it continues to be a friendly spirit and will play with us from the other side and that there will not be too many scary nights ahead.

I hope.

Another vist from the girl

Last night is seems we may have had another visit from our little girl.

Our long time friend Jeff Bell had come over to visit us. Jeff lives about 20 miles away so when he comes over, he usually stays the night. The first room down our hall use to be our eldest daughter Jessi's room and I have redone it for just such a visitor. It has a twin bed in it and a dresser, TV and nightstand. It is mainly this room, the hallway, hall bathroom and our 'library' room that seem to have the most activity from our 'little girl'.

So after many beers and stories later, I decided to go to bed while the boys continued to want to hang out front and proceed to chat about nothing an everything. At around midnight, I woke up to my alarm blaring in my ear. The weird thing was that the clock is set for 5:30am and it is usually shut off each morning when I get up and re-set just before bed each evening. The clock was also not even displaying the correct time, off about two hours or so and I am not sure how it got to be this way. Anyway, I rolled over, turned it off and went back to sleep.

Now our two dogs Tonka and Kai don't get along and fight to the point of bloodying each other, so they are kept separate and Tonka stays in the bedroom with the library attached to it for a couple of hours at a time and is let out for an hour or so in between each and every day. We let him out to go to the bathroom many, many times per day with the last time around 9:00-10:00pm at night just before everyone goes to sleep for the evening.

Last night an hour or so after my alarm clock incident, I was woke up by Tonka standing up on the bedside next to me (by the alarm clock) whining. He rarely does this but when he does, it usually means he needs to go outside. But he has never ever done this in the middle of the night like this time. So I got up, put the other dog in the spare room and proceeded to let Tonka outside. I had no idea what time it was but just knew that it was sometime in the middle of the night. Tonka flew out of the back room like a bat out of hell and headed for the back door.

After I let Tonka and baby Marley outside, I went and clicked the TV to see what time it was. Will was a sleep on the couch and Jeff in the bedroom and it was 2:45am on the dot. I went out front, sat in the chair and smoked a stogie. When I came back in, Tonka had let himself back in through the back door and was standing in the living room at the end of the hallway just staring down the dark hallway at nothing. And he was whining.

I then proceeded to go down the hallway and call him to come back to the bedroom, but he would not come. Finally after much encouragement to come back into the bedroom, he ran real fast past me and in through the bedroom door. The whole thing was just weird and anytime any of the three dogs are staring off down the hallway, it usually means that there is something there that is causing them to be restless, like our little visitor.

So this morning, I proceed to tell Jeff and Will the story about my overnight disturbances. To my shock, Will and Jeff looked and each other and Will said to me "Oh my god! I had an incident last night too!"

As it turns out, Will and Jeff came in late last night to eat something and after they were done eating, Will got up from the couch and went to wash his plate. He says that his right shoulder barely hit the wall as he rounded the wall between the kitchen and the hallway and that he literally felt like someone smacked down on his left hand knocking the plate right out of it and onto the kitchen floor.

Now if you know my family, it is not common for any of us to break things even by accident around our house. None of us has broken a plate or glass in a couple of years here. And you know how if you break something glass, there are normally a bunch of big pieces and then a few smaller pieces. Well this plate was shattered like you see car windows shatter, literally in a thousand little pieces and not ONE big piece. Will says that he got it all cleaned up, but the weird thing is this morning I found little shards of glass everywhere - in the kitchen, all over the dining room and in the living room. You would have thought that he had thrown the plate down as hard as he possibly could on to the tile for all the glass I found.

Not sure if any of this has to do with our little girl, but I am thinking for sure it does. Was she upset that Jeff was staying here in one of 'her' rooms? Was she upset that Will was dining with someone other than me or Allie?

In addition to that, I am a true believer that animals have a sixth sense that we don't. They have heightened sensory abilities that we as humans just don't posses. How come they can hear those silent whistles that we can't? How come we use dogs to sniff out drugs, bombs, land mines and the like? It's obvious they possess something that we don't and at least we are smart enough to recognize these amazing abilities in our pets. So what makes us think that perhaps they can not see things we don't see as well? Like the dead?

Fact is, there have been numerous studies done proving that animals can in fact predict impending disasters such as earthquakes (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/learn/topics/animal_eqs.php) long before we can. Animals also react differently to full moons and weather than we do.

In closing, I will say that our time here in this house proves to me that there is something after death. I think we do have a ghost in this house, even though I am not sure how she died, where she came from, what time period she lived in and who she was. I trust in my senses to let me know when something is amiss and I trust in my animal friends. I know that they will tell me when she is here. All because I am watching and listening!

Until next time!
